Fake it till you make it...
Is It possible to look rich without being rich? The answer is yes. Looking like a million bucks doesn’t mean you have to spend a million bucks. Trust me! I am the self-proclaimed ‘recessionista’ for over a decade. Today, I am going to be sharing my tips on looking luxe on a budget. Let’s get right into it:
1. Gold Dainty Jewelry
Simple classic gold jewelry is the key to a classic look. Since simplicity is associated with affluence and Gold is the richest color on earth. The combination of the two automatically makes you look more expensive. Tasteful accessories that look high quality makes you look chic. Keep your accessories delicate.
2. Choose white/Neutral Color Clothing
Neutrals are a great color palette to wear. Neutrals are easier to pull and can be deceptive, meaning you can purchase them from forever 21, Zara and H&M and they’ll look like Dior. Simply because they are classy colors. It’s simply harder to tell how cheap neutrals are especially if you wear it in a monochromatic look. When in doubt, wear the same shade from head to toe. It makes anyone look sophisticated and chic. Avoiding loud patterns would always elevate your look.
3. Invest in a Really Nice Bag
I understand that statement pieces would always be expensive. However, high-quality hand bags is a must in every woman’s closet. Remember, I said high-quality not necessarily designer. When most of my clothes were low-end clothing, I decided to invest in one expensive black bag. I’ve been carrying this one in the pictures for years and I get stopped constantly by people admiring them.
4. Make Grooming Easy
Find a grooming routine that you can stick with. Going minimalistic is always classier. Invest in a pattern you can rely on day in and day out. Invest in getting your nails done every 2 weeks or so. I keep my nails short to medium length and also red. Remember, it’s the little details that count.
5. Statement sunglasses
Nothing beats classic sunglasses. When all else fails, find a pair of black chic sunglasses and wear them with every outfit. Find one pair of sunglasses that flatters your face perfectly. By pairing your outfit with a pair of sunglasses, you are going to feel instantly elevated. You can get black sunglasses in varying price points and they’ll still be chic. My go-to is a cat-eye.
6. Signature Scent
I’m a big believer that whatever scent you are wearing truly completes your whole look. It’s the small little thing that sets you apart. Invest in a high quality perfume that has good lasting power and has a lot of natural ingredients. My favorite perfume of all time and my signature scent is the Dior J’adore. It is a bit pricey but I’ve had the same bottle for 3 years and it’s still at the halfway point. A little goes a long way.
7. Structured/tailored Clothing
Cut matters especially if you are like me and are in between sizes! Find a tailor and make them your best friend. Find silhouettes that compliment your body shape perfectly and wear those. We come in different shapes and body types and it reads luxe when we wear outfit structured for our particular body shape. Looking intentional with your personal style speaks volumes. Remember, if things look they were made for your body, people are just going to assume you pay an insane amount of money for it.
8. Pointy Pumps
Shoes definitely have the ability to make or break your outfit. A pair of pointy pumps just ALWAYS elevate your outfit because of its classic silhouette. Even the most casual outfit. There is something just classy and elegant about them and they simply would never go out of style.
9. Natural makeup with Red lipstick
A capsule makeup collection that can give you a five-minute look is important. This would make you look polished and put-together. A great skincare routine is imperative as well. If you focus on your skin, you won’t need as much makeup. In my personal opinion, nothing makes a woman looks cheap than cakey makeup. Skincare first, makeup second. Red lipstick always makes anyone look sophisticated.
10. Invest in a leather jacket
This is the fastest way to make your outfits look even more stellar! When it comes to a classic leather jacket, go with actual real leather. Please forego pleather, it's absolutely not worth it. A classic leather jacket is something you are going to have forever. A great leather jacket is truly game-changing. Try avoiding colorful jackets. In my opinion, simply stick with black.
Ultimately, when you feel great about yourself, you’ll automatically look great.
